With the issue of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) being a major concern for the people, Director General of Police, Assam has asked people to maintain social distancing and has allowed the assembly of only five people while hoisting the flag marking the Bihu celebrations.
DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta in his official Twitter handle said that in view of COVID-19 outbreak and to keep everyone safe, the police “may” request Bihu Committees across the state to have an assembly of only five people only for hoisting the Flag.
The top cop added that hoisting may be restricted to 30 minutes only and further during the hoisting, social distancing should be observed.
Another police official said that all Bihu Committees have been asked to cancel all sorts of public functions to ensure security and further, only limited number of people is advised to mark the celebrations by only hoisting a flag. Apart from this, even after the lockdown is withdrawn people will still be advised to maintain distancing till the issue of COVID-19 is eradicated completely.
