Bhattacharya in a recent interview with the All India Radio, Guwahati, reportedly compared the TET certificate with that of a driving license.
“We are not disrespecting the driving profession but the Minister has hurt our sentiments. Hence, we have added ‘Driver’ before our names just like the BJP leaders added ‘Chowkidar’ prefix to support the Prime Minister’s fight against corruption,” said a teacher while speaking to TIME8.
The TET was held for the first time in the state in 2012 for the appointment of the teachers in the government-aided Lower Primary (LP) and Upper Primary (UP) schools. The validity of the certificate of TET held in 2012 has already expired.
12000 qualified teachers were appointed in contractual posts under the Sarba Sikhsa Abhijan Mission, Assam. While some of them got regular appointments, a majority of them are yet to get regular appointments creating job insecurity among the teachers.
It is to mention that to fill up the vacant posts of teachers in the schools, the Assam Education Department is mooting to conduct fresh TET for LP and UP level tentatively between September 22nd to 29th, 2019.
It may be recalled, the #MainBhiChowkidar campaign was started to counter-attack Congress president Rahul Gandhi‘s ‘Chowkidar chor hain’ jibe which Gandhi started to attack Modi on the Rafale deal. After registering a historic win in the Lok Sabha elections 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 23rd, 2019 ended his ‘Main bhi Chowkidar’ campaign on Twitter by removing the prefix “Chowkidar” from his name.
