The High School Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) exams have been postponed from its scheduled date December 22nd, 2019 to January 19th, 2020.
As per media reports, the exams have been rescheduled due to the ongoing anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) protest in the state. The postponement of exams has been confirmed by the Secondary Education Department of Assam through a formal notification.
Meanwhile, due to the sudden changes in the examination dates, the Secondary Education Department has issued helpline numbers for the candidates to resolve all their queries and doubts. The toll-free helpline numbers are–1800-212-005599(toll-free number), 08472880277(for online technical help 10 am- 6pm).
It may be mentioned that sporadic violence erupted in Assam including other parts of the Northeastern states, West Bengal and the national capital after the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill which seeks to provide Indian citizenship to non-Muslims from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan was passed in the Rajya Sabha on December 11th, 2019.
According to Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, as many as 200 cases of arson, vandalism, looting, attempt to murder, burning of government property has been registered with the police and 273 people arrested till December 19th, 2019.
