Assam Pugilists Jamuna, Lovlina Return Home To Hero’s Welcome

Jamuna and Lovlina are now looking forward to the Olympic qualifiers to be held on February 2020

Assam’s Jamuna Boro and Lovlina Borgohain who bagged bronze in the recently concluded Women’s World Boxing Championships in Ulan-Ude, Russia was accorded a hero’s welcome at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport on October 22nd, 2019.

Both the pugilists thanked their fans upon reaching Assam and said they will continue to win more medals for the country. Hundreds of crowd gathered outside the LGBI Airport to welcome and felicitate the girls. Fans were seen honouring the players with gamosa, jaapi and flower garlands.

Both the young elated pugilists also shared their first-hand experience of participating in the World Women Boxing Championship.

“I participated for the first time in any senior category world championship. It feels great to bag a bronze medal in the first participation itself. I will definitely work hard to clinch gold for my country and state next time,” said Jamuna while addressing newsmen.

She also mentioned about eight-time World championship medalist MC Mary Kom. “Mary Didi is like a mother who is leading ahead of us. We the young players always look up to her. This is the first time India has won four medals.”

On the other hand, Lovlina said she is happy but wants to change the colour of the medal in the coming days. “I am touched to receive so much love and honour. I will try my best to live up to the expectations of all.”

The pugilists informed that both of them are now looking forward to the Olympic qualifiers to be held on February 2020.
