Assam Most Unsafe State For Children In Northeast

Assam recorded the maximum number of cases of crime against children among the Northeastern states while Nagaland recorded the lowest number of cases.   

As per the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, as many as 4951 out of 1,29,032 cases of crime against children were registered in Assam while just 93 cases were registered in Nagaland in 2017.

Assam shared 3.8 per cent of the total cases registered in the country while Nagaland shared just 0.1 per cent. Among the other Northeastern states, a total of 276 cases were registered in Tripura (0.2 per cent national share) followed by Mizoram with 220 cases (0.2 per cent), Sikkim with 190 cases (0.1 per cent), Arunachal Pradesh with 138 (0.1 per cent) and Manipur with 109 cases (0.1 per cent).

In 2016, Assam recorded 3964 cases while Nagaland recorded just 78. On the other hand, Tripura recorded 274 cases followed by Meghalaya (240), Mizoram (188), Manipur (134), Arunachal Pradesh (133) and Sikkim (110). On the other hand, in 2015, a total of 2835 cases were registered in Assam, 257 in Meghalaya, 255 in Tripura, 186 in Mizoram, 181 in Arunachal Pradesh, 110 in Manipur, 64 in Sikkim and 61 in Nagaland.

The report revealed that Uttar Pradesh is the most unsafe state in the country with 19,145 cases (14.8 per cent national share) of crime against children in 2017 followed by Madhya Pradesh (19038 cases).
