In the view of the extension of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) induced lockdown, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on May 3rd, 2020 announced a few dos and don’ts to follow in the State.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Sonowal said that private offices can operate with up to 33 per cent strength by strictly following the social distancing and hygiene protocols, with the remaining people working from home.
As per the Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines, Sonowal said that the Government offices can function with 50 per cent attendance of group A and B employees and 33 per cent attendance in group C and D category staff.
“All workplaces must have an adequate arrangement for temperature screening, hand washing and sanitizers,” Sonowal said.
The staff attending office have been asked to strictly adhere to various precautions like social distancing and wearing masks.
Frequent cleaning of common surfaces and handwashing has been made mandatory.
Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) to start running buses for the public from May 4th, 2020.
“ASTC buses can operate with upto 50 per cent seating capacity and bus depots can operate with upto 50 per cent capacity,” added Sonowal.
All shops selling essential goods to remain open in red zones. Shops apart from shopping complex, malls and daily market, are allowed to open in green and orange zones.
Restaurants, hotels, salons, beauty parlours will remain closed in Assam until further orders.
People associated with emergency and essential services are allowed to use personal vehicle.
“Out of 33 districts, 29 are in gree zone. Bongaigaon, Morigaon, Dhubri and Goalpara are in the orange zone. The fight against the coronavirus will continue. The relaxation in lockdown rules in no way means we have won the fight against coronavirus,” said Sonowal.
He added, “We all must adhere to social distancing, wear a mask and use hand sanitizer to continue our fight against coronavirus.”
The Centre on May 1st, 2020 extended the nationwide coronavirus lockdown – which was scheduled to end on May 3rd – by two weeks i.e. May 17th, 2020.
