
Assam Government has imported 50,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) kits from China on Wednesday in addition to the already stocked up 86,000 kits to fight the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on his twitter handle said, “Another BIG reason to cheer! Keeping life first as the motive, we’re glad to have imported 50,000 PPE kits from Guangzhou, China. I am happy to receive this special flight along with Pijush Hazarika at Guwahati airport just now. A big re-assurance for our doctors and nurses.”
The PPE kits were brought in by a special Blue Dart cargo flight.
He announced this on the same day when two COVID-19 patients treated at the Sonapur Civil Hospital, and were successively tested negative twice and were discharged from the hospital. They are residents of Morigaon’s Jagiroad and will now be under 14-days home quarantine at a guest house in the Jagiroad Paper Mill complex.
The Health Minister earlier said that the active COVID-19 patients in Assam are slowly recovering but one patient who is suffering from cancer as well as some complications and can be termed as being in a serious state.
He further added as of date, the state has more than 86 thousand PPE kits while there are 91 thousand N-95 masks.
Apart from this, the state government has also launched a helpline number to help all the persons who are stranded in various locations. The persons who are in an emergency will be verified and accordingly help will be deployed.
