The Government of Assam will start the Rapid Antibody tests from April 22nd, 2020 starting from the Spanish Garden in Guwahati which currently is a designated containment zone.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “From April 22, we shall begin Rapid Antibody tests, from Spanish Garden – a containment zone.”

He added that the Government of India has given 9600 Rapid Antibody test kits for Immunoglobulin M (IgM) and Immunoglobulin G (IgG) to Coronavirus. “The test is non-confirmatory yet useful for mass surveillance in containment areas as it gives results in 15 minutes”, He added.

Assam Government to initiate the random rapid tests to detect novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection on suspected persons brought 9600 test kids from the Government of India on Monday.

The first phase of tests will be carried on the persons related to the containment zones such as the Spanish Garden and the Athgaon Mosque in Guwahati.

After all the persons linked to these places the tested, random tests will be initiated in full force. The kits can detect the infection within just 15 minutes.

Due to the sharp hike in the number of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases, earlier the Assam government decided to go for one lakh random rapid tests in some select zones.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that the government will procure 1 lakh rapid testing kits to conduct the tests.

Assam’s COVID-19 positive toll rose to 34 but till Monday 19 were cured and discharged while one person died. The number of active cases in the state is 14 and in the past two days, there are no new cases detected.

However, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) advised the states not to use the rapid testing kits for the next two days, as some irregularities are being still being investigated.
