Assam Forms COVID-19 Economic Recovery Task Force

Assam Government has constituted an eight-member task force for the revitalisation of the economy to chalk out and implement policies in the state by aiming to revive its economy in the post-COVID-19 scenario.

The team will be led by retired bureaucrat Subhas Chandra Das.

The other team members are: Dr KM Buzarbaruah, Ex-VC AAU, Jorhat, Dr Madhurjya Bezbaruah, Professor Gauhati University, Dr Joydeep Barua, Associate Professor, OKDISCD, Dr Amiya Sarma, Executive Director, RGVN, Gautam Goswami, Agri-Business consultant, ARIAS Society, Krishna Kanta Bora, State Organising Secy, Bharatiya Kisan Sangha and Adip Kumar Phukan, Senior Journalist.

During an interactive session with the leading economists of the State last month, Sonowal called for a unified approach to tackle the economic slowdown.

He called for a time-bound work plan to boost the economy in the state.

“We will require a timebound work plan and a task force to deal with the economic situation arising out of COVID-19,” Sonowal said.

The Chief Minister also underlines the importance of a 100-days action plan for restructuring the economic system.

Sonowal also emphasised on prioritising sectors like agriculture, livestock, to overcome the situation. He also called for plugging the loopholes in the system.
