    Assam Coronavirus Cases Reach 935

The government also opened up the first super speciality COVID-19 hospital

Assam has seen another spike in cases of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) on Friday with 55 new cases taking the total number of cases to 935.

As per Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, among the new cases, six are air travellers who recently came back to Assam but he did not reveal the identity or place of origin of these new cases. With these six cases, the total number of flight based cases in the state has reached eight in total.

Assam among the 935 cases has 803 active cases with 125 being discharged while four persons were confirmed to be dead. Three persons who were tested positive here in Assam were sent back to their home states.

Earlier on Wednesday, it was reported that two women who came to Assam through a flight were tested positive for the virus. Both the passengers had travelled on SG-8194 (Ahmedabad-Delhi) and SG-8152 (Delhi-Guwahati) flights.  Sources informed that both the passengers belong to Guwahati and are currently quarantined at the MMCH in the city.

Following this, the operating crew of the flights was quarantined and also, several contacts including eight primary contacts have been traced by the health department. It has been suspected that the new cases are from the same flight as well.

Keeping the rising cases in mind, the government on Friday opened up the first super speciality COVID-19 hospital of the northeast in Guwahati. This hospital has a capacity of 236 beds including 50 ICU and it will be useful in treating symptomatic and serious coronavirus positive patients.

The hospital is expected to be fully operational by Monday.

As per sources, the new hospital has been installed with an air conditioning system which would be sanitized by a specific ultra-violet ray device.

The hospital which is set up in the GMCH premises also has an operation theatre along with a microbiology lab.

As per Himanta Biswa Sarma, the hospital which has been built at a cost of Rs 150 crore can deal with every complication related to the Covid-19.

With the rising cases, the government of Assam is planning to create at least 5000 seats across several hospitals in the state so that there are no problems in treating the patients if the situation turns worse.

The state government is now planning every possible thing as within the next few days, the state will be hit by flood and so, there will be a lot of issues in dealing with both the Covid-19 and the floods.
