
The Assam BJP president, while expressing his happiness at the party’s massive victory in the by-elections, on October 24th, 2019, said that the result has proved people’s trust in the party.
“People of the state have trust in the party and its principle of sabka saath, sabka vikas. It has been proved by the mandate today,” state BJP president Ranjeet Dass said.
Talking about the BJP’s defeat in Jania, Dass said, “We won Rangapara, Ratabari and Sonari constituency and lost Jania. But, we did well in Jania though we lost the seat.”
In Ratabari, BJP candidate Bijoy Malakar defeated Congress candidate Keshab Prasad Rajak by a margin of 24001 votes. Malakar garnered 68,455 votes while Rajak garnered 44,454.
Rajen Borthakur defeated Congress candidate Kartik Kurmi in Rangapara by a margin of 49,599 votes and Nabanita Handique defeated Congress candidate Sushil Kumar Suri in Sonari constituency by a margin of 15,430 votes.
All India United Democratic Front’s candidate Rafiqul Islam defeated Congress candidate Shamsul Hoque by a margin of 35,141 votes.
