Amid non-stop protests in the state against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Assam unit will organise a booth-level president’s conclave in Guwahati’s Khanapara on January 4th, 2020 to reach out to the public.
The rally will be attended by BJP’s working president JP Nadda, informed Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Top BJP leaders like party’s national general secretary Ram Madhav are also expected to participate in the rally.
It may be mentioned, this is going to be BJP’s first mega rally in Guwahati after violent protests took place in Assam since December 2019. Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass had said that around 70,000 party workers will attend the conclave.
The BJP has intensified its massive outreach programme over the contentious legislation. On January 2nd, 2020, the saffron party has released a toll-free number where people can give a missed call and register their support to the controversial CAA.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also on December 30th, 2019 initiated a campaign in support of the controversial CAA. “#IndiaSupportsCAA because CAA is about giving citizenship to persecuted refugees & not about taking anyone’s citizenship away,” read a tweet from the official account of Prime Minister’s personal website.
In the recent past, the Assam BJP took out peace rallies in parts of the state to spread awareness on CAA. Dass had earlier alleged that the members of the Popular Front of India and the Maoists were actively involved in the violent incidents that took place in the state during the anti-CAA protests last month.
