The Assam BJP on July 24th, 2019, smelled the state coordinator for National Register of Citizens (NRC) Prateek Hajela’s sceptical role in the publication of an error-free NRC.

With just a week left for the publication of the final NRC, the Assam BJP spokesperson Mominul Awal said, “Hejla’s statement before the Supreme Court about completion of re-verification of 27 per cent of the people included in the NRC is baseless.”

“Hajela has been dictated in the whole NRC updation work,” Awal said. He also said, “The BJP wants an error-free NRC for a better future of the indigenous people of the state.”

It may be mentioned that the Supreme Court on July 23rd, 2019, extended the deadline for publication of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) from July 31st, 2019 to now August 31st, 2019.

The top court also declined the prayer by Centre and Assam for conducting re-verification of names to check wrongful inclusions or exclusions, especially in bordering districts of Assam.
