Assam Archer Shivangini Gohain, Struck By Arrow, Shifted To ICU

The 12-year-old archer, Shivangini Gohain underwent a “very complex surgery” at the AIIMS on January 10th, 2020. Gohain has now been shifted to the ICU for observation.

A 15-cm part of the metal rod removed from her body following the surgery. Gohain was injured when an arrow shot accidentally during a training session pierced her neck and upper body. The surgery lasted for three and a half hours.

Gohain was undergoing training at the Dakha Devi Rasiwasia College at Chabua, an extension centre under the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Regional Centre in Guwahati when the incident took place on January 8th, 2020.

She was rushed to the Brahmaputra Hospital in Dibrugarh and was airlifted to Delhi on the night of January 9th, 2020 and admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. Gohain is a resident of Hatkhula village of Moran town.

The Assam Archery Association (AAA) said that the accident took place as she was practising without any coach and other officials.

The AAA said that the SAI will bear all the expenses of her treatment. The AAA has contributed Rs 20,000 towards her treatment.
