
Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the High-Level Committee(HLC) for implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord will submit its report to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on February 25th, 2020 in presence of full cabinet.
Speaking with the media Sarma said that the report will be handed over to the Central government by Assam Government. The Minister added that the panel has already completed the HLC report by February 17th, 2020.
The term of clause 6 panel was till February 15th, 2020.
He added that if required the Home Ministry is likely to hold a meeting with the committee in the capital city.
It may be mentioned that Clause 6 panel was set up by the Home Ministry to suggest ways for providing constitutional safeguards to the indigenous people of Assam.
It may be noted, the committee was set up as per Clause 6 of the historic 1985 Assam Accord. Clause 6 of the Accord deals with granting constitutional, legislative and administrative safeguards to the Assamese people to protect, preserve and promote the cultural, social, linguistic identity and heritage.
