The All Assam Chutia Students’ Union (AACSU) has called for a 12-hour Assam bandh on December 9th, 2019 demanding the withdrawal of the Centre’s proposed Citizenship Amendment Bill.
The general secretary of AACSU, Mahen Bora has made it clear that they would not fall prey to Centre’s conspiracy and continue to stand for the people of Assam and oppose the bill.
With less than hours after Union cabinet’s nod to the contentious bill different organizations, civil bodies, students’ unions in Assam are up in arms against the bill so that it does not get tabled in the Parliament.
As a part of its on-going movement against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and 30 other indigenous organizations launched their 3-day protest against the ‘anti-Assam’ bill on December 4th, 2019.
The Bill seeks to grant Indian citizenship to non-Muslims who fled religious persecution from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan and entered India on or before December 31, 2014.
