Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi is all set to lead a protest rally against the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 (CAA) in Guwahati on December 28th, 2019.
The Assam party unit is leaving no stone unturned to make it a success as protests against the act continue unabated in the state.
The Congress will take out flag marches across the country on its foundation day on December 28th, 2019 to take its ‘Save Constitution-Save India’ message to the people.
Addressing media persons, former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and the AICC general secretary in-charge of Assam Harish Rawat said, “Rahul Gandhi will join protest rally against CAA. He will also pay tributes and meet the family members of the ones who died in Guwahati during the anti-CAA protests. He will also visit the injured protesters.”
Two 17-year-old boys – Dipanjal Das and Sam Stafford – were killed in police firing in Guwahati during anti-CAA protest in the city.
He added, “Congress would have never allowed the passage of the bill (Citizenship Amendment) Bill) in the parliament if we had the required numbers (MPs). We will reject CAA if voted to power.”
Gandhi will reach Guwahati at 1 pm and will head towards the rally venue, Veterinary College Playground, Khanapara. He will fly back to Delhi by 5 pm.
“We will launch a mass signature campaign against the citizenship act tomorrow. We aim to collect 2 lakh signatures and send the same to the President of India,” said Ripun Bora, president, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee.
