Alarming Situation In Assam After COVID-19 Positive Cases Reach 59

A student of the Regional Dental College was tested positive on Friday night


Although the situation of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) breakout in Assam was seen under control with one of the highest recovery rates, the current situation seems to be deteriorating with the number of confirmed cases reaching 59.

On Friday night another person, who has been identified to be a student of the Regional Dental College, Kamrup Metro. Following this new report, the government of Assam has decided not to allow anyone travelling from West Bengal into Assam as there were two reports of people with the virus entering Assam in the past week.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet wrote, “These are difficult times. My duty is to give the finest attention to all. Following social distance guidelines of govt, met the girl, who tested positve, at Regional Dental College at 12:30 am & assured her best care. Also requested students not to panic, ensure social distance.”

The new case has started to cause panic among the locals in the city but the government has taken all initiatives to control the situation.

It has been suspected that the virus in Guwahati has taken a community spread character as four of the new cases have got no travel history.

Several areas in Guwahati were declared as containment zones and new guidelines for the city are being expected in order to prevent people from panicking due to the sudden detections.

As on Saturday, Assam has reported 59 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 34 being discharged and 24 still being active. One death was officially reported by the government but another death of a minor girl due to the virus is yet to be officially tallied with the official data maintained by the health department in Assam.
