All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) supremo Badruddin Ajmal in the wake of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has appealed all the Muslims in Assam to offer Taraweeh namaz and the prayers during Ramzan from home only.

Ajmal said that since there is an outbreak of a deadly virus in the country, Muslims in Assam should stay at their homes and offer prayers from home only. “Since Assam is still not at a major outbreak, the Muslims should support the government in the maintain the norms and preventing the further spread of the virus”, he added.

He also thanked the Muslims in the state for their support to the government during the lockdown.

Ajmal further appealed to all Muslims in Assam to stay home so that nobody can point fingers at the community for the actions of a few people. “Muslims should stop venturing out without any valid reason and should stay indoors during the lockdown period, not for themselves but for the entire society,” he said.

Earlier he said, “Police and administration have been pointing out that some people, particularly Muslims, are coming out on the streets without any reason. We must stop this and eradicate the risk of this disease by cooperating with one another.”

Taraweeh refers to additional ritual prayers performed by Muslims at night after the Isha namaz during the holy month of Ramadan or Ramzan.
