In a bid to mobilise the youths towards the regional politics, Asom Gana Parishad, the premiere regional political party, has formed its students’ wing on November 21st, 2019. The organisation will be known as Asom Chatra Parishad.

Speaking to the media persons, the president of the AGP Atul Bora said, “Formation of the students’ wing is the need of the hour to mobilise the youths of the state towards the regional politics.”

Besides, he said that the decision to form the wing was not taken suddenly. “The party workers discussed the matter for a long time and came with a unanimous decision to form the organisation. We want to inspire the youths towards regionalism for the greater interest of the people of the state,” he added.

Meanwhile, talking about the All Assam Students’ Union, the Agriculture Minister said, “AASU is a non-political organisation. Therefore, the body has to stay away from politics. So, we wanted a students’ organisation and hence the body has been formed.”

Trinayan Baruah has been elected as the president of the students’ wing.

The AGP was formed after the historic Assam Accord of 1985 was signed between the Government of India and the leaders of the Assam Movement.
