Agarwood Chips Worth Rs 1 Lakh Seized At LGBI Airport

Earlier, around 180 kg agarwood was seized at the airport


The Custom Department sleuths seized around 8.5 kg of smuggled agarwood chips worth Rs 1 lakh at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Borjhar on September 17th, 2019. One Ajay Seraugari was nabbed in this connection.

As per information, the accused was about to fly to New Delhi.  “The accused could not produce valid transit permit and other documents supporting the agarwood chips. An investigation is underway, officials said. As per the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau’s rule, transit permit is mandatory for carrying forest products from one place to another.

On August 3rd, 2019, the Bokakhat police seized illegal agarwood worth Rs 1.5 crore from a truck at the National Highway 37. The truck was en route to Naharoni of Dergaon to Hojai Nil Bagan area.

In 2018, the Customs Department seized around 180 kg of agarwood and nabbed Mohammed Helaluddin and Mohammed Manir and in 2017 the WCCB, Customs Department, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and forest officials seized around 8 kg from one Mohammed Zammir Uddin of Hojai.
