After Assam, Bihar BJP Demands NRC To Weed Out Outsiders

CM Nitish Kumar said his party does not favour NRC exercise

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ministers in Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar cabinet demanded an Assam-style National Register of Citizens (NRC) to weed out the outsiders from the state.

However, the CM said his party does not favour such an exercise. The Janata Da United colleagues of the BJP in the coalition government rejected it calling the demand politically motivated.

After the publication of the final NRC list in Assam, which was published on August 31st, 2019, the JD(U) vice president Prashant Kishor had said that lakhs of people have become foreigners in their own country because of the botch-ups in the list.

On the other hand, BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Rakesh Sinha said the infiltration was ‘a silent aggression’ and it was ‘obvious in some parts of Bihar’. However, no official reaction has come from the saffron party on updation of NRC in the state.
