AASU Mocks AGP’s Decision Of Forming Its Students’ Wing

The AGP was formed after the historic Assam Accord of 1985

The All Assam Students’ Union(AASU) mocking the Asom Gana Parishad(AGP) for its move to form its own students’ wing stated that the latter should ‘respect’ AASU as it was born out of the age-old students’ union group.

“AGP was a result of a six-year-long Assam Agitation led by AASU. Hence, it was born out of AASU and now AGP has formed its students’ wing. AASU is like its parent, and it is the duty to respect one’s parents”, said Samujjal Bhattacharjee, AASU Chief Advisor while addressing media.

It may be mentioned that the AGP on October 31st, 2019 announced to launch a new students’ wing – Asom Chatra Parishad (ACP) in a bid to strengthen its structure ahead of the forthcoming elections. Students studying in school, college and university can become a member of the ACP.

“Every political party has its students’ wing be it BJP, Congress or the left parties. Both the political parties and students’ organizations have their own high command. AASU’s high command is the people of Assam,” Bhattacharjee added.

He also said that it is the decision of the students if they want to join party politics or be with the people and work towards their development without joining active politics.
