A gang of nine dacoits were arrested with a cache of weapons in Guwahati, police said on January 28th, 2020. The gang was apprehended while they were allegedly plotting to loot in Guwahati West district area.

Guwahati police commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta said, “Nine armed dacoits preparing to commit dacoity in Guwahati West District have been caught in an ambush planned by Crime Branch Guwahati in a joint operation with East District under Basista PS jurisdiction have been apprehended.”

Gupta further informed that six daggers, three masks, nine mobile phones and six monkey caps have been recovered from their possession.

The apprehended persons have been identified as Atabur Ali (38), Sahil Hussain (38), Lukman Hussain (24), Abdul Mujib (27), Md Anowar Islam (27), Aminul Islam (19) Md Guljar Hussain (24), Ikrabul Ali (33) and Hanif Ali (32).

Atabur, Abdul, Anowar, Aminul, Giljar and Hanif hail from Nagaon district of Assam. Lukman hails from Hojai and Ikrabul from Kamrup (M).

“Interrogation and process of legal action is in progress,” Gupta added.
