68 College Girls In Gujarat Forced To Remove Undies To Prove They Weren’t Menstruating

68 girls from Shri Sahajanand Girls’ Institute in Gujarat’s Bhuj were allegedly forced to remove their underwear to prove they weren’t menstruating

In a horrifying incident, an education institute which claims ‘self-development and empowerment of girls through modern, scientific and value-based education’, allegedly forced 68 girls to remove their underwear to prove they weren’t menstruating.

As per several reports, 68 girls from Shri Sahajanand Girls’ Institute (SSGI) in Gujarat’s Bhuj were allegedly forced to remove their underwear to prove they weren’t menstruating.

The incident took place after the hostel rector complained to the principal Rita Raning that a few girls have “violated their religious practices” by entering the temple and kitchen during their periods.

The institution’s mission reads “to provide quality education of global standards on a strong foundation of Indian values and traditions to girl students based on current advances in science, technology and societal demands with emphasis on commit social progress, peace, harmony and national integration.” The institute was founded in 2012 for the higher education of girls under Shree Swaminarayan Temple Bhuj.

At the time filing this report, no police complaint has been lodged in connection with the matter. However, a committee has been formed by the in-charge vice-chancellor of Krantiguru SHyamji Krishna Verma Kutch University for investigating the matter, Ahmedabad Mirror reported.

In India, the topic of menstruation has been a taboo until date. Menstruating females are not allowed to enter the kitchen and temple, in many households in India.
