For the first time ever, a European-style clock tower will be installed near the Last Gate area of Guwahati. As part of the beautification drive in Guwahati, the above 40-foot clock tower is being constructed by the Guwahati City Lions Club and Park Panorama along with the Assam PWD department.
Speaking to TIME8, Sujit Agarwal, former president of the club said, “It’s a European style clock tower. There will be four clocks. It will add a vintage feel to the city.”
He added, “I took up the project during my tenure as the president of the club. The tower will be inaugurated in the next couple of months and will be dedicated to the martyrs of Assam.”
The construction work of the tower has been completed. “Painting and pasting of the tiles are yet to be done. The clocks have been placed,” he said. The estimated project cost of the clock tower is Rs 22 lakh.
The clock tower can be seen from – Super Market, MLA hostel, Ganesh Mandir and Beltola – areas of the city.
It may be mentioned that Dibrugarh is the first district in Assam to have a clock tower in 2014. The clock tower is located at Chowkidinghee traffic point.
