    4 More Killed In Assam Flood, Death Toll Reaches 86 | 10 Points

    Guwahati: The monsoon mayhem in Assam claimed four more lives on July 29th, 2019 taking the number of deaths in the flood-ravaged state to 86. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority’s daily flood bulletin stated that over 12.24 lakh people have been affected in 16 of Assam’s 33 districts so far.

    The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been evacuating people residing in low-lying areas to relief camps across the state. The Centre has assured the state government of all possible help in tackling the floods.

    • Over 14,727 people have been shifted to 322 relief camps so far.
    • 12,24,685 people in 1,113 villages of 16 districts have been affected by the deluge.
    • Representatives of the Skill Development Vocational Teacher’s Association and Kamakhya Devalaya contributed towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
    • Brand Ambassador of Assam Forest Department Ananda Khataniar contributed Rs 25,000 towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
    • Minister Sum Ronghang, MLAs Prasanta Phukan and Suren Phukan contributed towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. 
    • Barpeta is the worst-hit district with 8,19,077 people hit by the ravaging deluge. The other affected districts are Dhemaji, Sonitpur, Darrang, Nalbari, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat and Cachar.
    • Members of the Guwahati Silpi Samaj contributed ₹ 51,000 towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. 
    • Risk of the outbreak of water-borne diseases increases as Japanese Encephalitis death toll reaches 126.
    • The rivers flowing at the danger level are the Brahmaputra at Neamatighat (Jorhat) and Dhubri, the Jia Bharali at N T Road Crossing (Sonitpur) and Kushiara at Karimganj.
    • Sixty-six relief distribution centres are being run in eight districts, the ASDMA
      said.
