Three ISIS-inspired men who were arrested for allegedly planning a terror strike in Delhi and Assam were sent to 14-judicial custody on December 7th, 2019. Those arrested are identified as Luit Zameel Zaman (24), Mukadir Islam (21) and Ranjeet Islam (24). They were shifted to District Jail in Goalpara.
The three “highly-radicalised” men were arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell after a joint operation with the Assam Police from Goalpara on November 26th, 2019. An Improvised Explosive Device, baton sword, timer and IED components were also recovered from the possession of the suspects.
Acting on the intelligence and digital inputs, a Delhi police team was dispatched for the Assam. On November 24th, 2019, a trap was laid near Madhuban Lodge in Goalpara by a joint team of Delhi police and Goalpara Police. The arrested men were active on social media platforms which helped the police to profile them by analysing their posts and activities.
Zamal worked at an Aadhar enrolment centre, Islam was employed as a driver and Ramjeet worked at a trading centre, as per reports. Zamal was allegedly involved in love jihad controversy seven months back before his arrest.
The police said that the arrested people were reportedly planning a terror attack on the last of Raas Mahotsav in Dhudnoi and replicate the same in Delhi in areas with heavy footfall.
A case (709/19) under section 120(B),121/121(A)/122/153(A) IPC, R/W sec- 415 ES Act, 25 Arm Act, 16/18 UA(P) Act has been lodged at Goalpara Police Station.
