
Acting on specific information, the Lakhimpur police on December 23rd, 2019, netted three Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans for their alleged involvement in smuggling duplicate gold.
The accused have been identified as Basu Dev Sarmah, Waikendrajit and Imkam Tasi. Police recovered an amount of Rs 14,50,000 from the possession of the accused.
As per information, the Lakhimpur police had received information about some miscreants attempting to transact money to buy and sell fake gold at Gutibari area in the district. Later, the police rushed to spot and foiled the attempt.
The accused hail from Manipur and posted in Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), police said.
A case under relevant sections of the relevant acts has been registered against the accused with the Laluk police. Further investigation is on, police said.
