3 Assam Excise Officials Killed In Road Accident In Morongi; CM Orders Probe

Severely injured three other excise officials are undergoing treatment at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital


Two excise officials died on the spot and another succumbed to his injuries after their Golaghat bound vehicle collided with a dumper near Morongi Tehsil in Golaghat District of Assam on the night of September 25th, 2019.

The incident took place along the National Highway 39 while the trio was on their way for an investigation into an illicit liquor trading case.

The deceased have been identified as Sumu Maibongsa (Inspector), Ramen Gurung (Constable) and Harekrishna Kumar (Sub-Inspector). Three persons also sustained severe injuries and are undergoing treatment at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressing grief over the incident has ordered a probe into the matter. Upper Assam Divisional Commissioner Julie Sonowal has been instructed to conduct the probe and submit a report at the earliest.

On the other hand, Assam Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya condoled the deaths of the officials and announced that the government will bear all the medical expenses of the injured for their quick recovery.

A team headed by Additional Excise Commissioner, Sanjiv Medhi is supposed to reach Maibongsa’s residence in Diphu to attend his last rites on September 26th, 2019.
