29 Columns of Indian Army To Be Withdrawn from Assam

The Centre has decided to withdraw the Indian Army and Assam Rifles contingents who were deployed in the two Northeastern(NE) states of Assam and Tripura after agitations escalated over the controversial Citizenship Act.

It may be mentioned that 29 columns each consisting of 70 soldiers of Indian Army were deployed in Assam and two columns of Assam Rifles(AR) were deployed in Tripura to help the local police forces maintain the law and order situation of both the states.

The forces were deployed between December 11th, 2019 to December 17th, 2019.

Following the violent protests that started on December 11th, 2019 across the state, the internet services were also suspended. However, the broadband internet services were restored in the state on December 17th, 2019 and the mobile internet services were restored on December 20th, 2019.

It may be mentioned that on December 24th, 2019 72 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) were withdrawal from Jammu and Kashmir after an order passed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The CAPFs include 24 companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and 12 companies each of the Border Security Force (BSF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
