Guwahati: Two years ago on June 8, 2018, Assam had witnessed one of the most brutal incidents of mob violence where two youth namely Neelotpal Das and Abhijit Nath were allegedly lynched by a mob over some rumours that were circulated on social media. Two years later, their families are still waiting for justice as no fast track court has yet been initiated.
Ajit Nath, Abhijit’s father speaking about it reportedly said that the court proceedings need to be a bit faster so that the accused can be proven guilty and be given the punishments their crime.
He also stated that he feels that there might be some attempts by the accused persons to instigate the witnesses.
On June 8, 2018 Abhi-Neel were allegedly lynched at Dokmoka in Karbi Anglong following a rumour of them being xupadhora (Child Lifters) that was spread through social media and phones. This the incident came to light very late in the night when few videos were circulated on the internet.
The video was termed to be a horrific one as it was seen that the duo were begging for their lives while they were being attacked by the people (most of them being locals of the area). Although following the incident at least 71 accused were arrested, some of them were out on bail while at least 47 were termed as prime accused in the case.
Their families (Abhi-Neels) have now pleaded the people to keep on supporting so that their sons can get justice and also so that the persons behind the horrific killings do not escape.
