Over 10,000 people have been affected as floods hit Assam once again. On the other hand, the deluge in Nagaland has claimed two lives following heavy showers for straight 72 hours.

Around 300 families have been affected after the floodwaters of Diphu and Dhansiri river submerged several areas in Dimapur. Over 100 villages are reeling under water in Nagaon, Hojai, Karbi Anglong and Golaghat districts. Several rivers are flowing above the danger mark in both the states following incessant rainfall.

The Indian army and the Assam Rifles personnel have been engaged in the rescue operation of stranded villagers while the district administration had set up several flood relief camps for the flood-affected people who have been evacuated after sincere efforts by the troops. The victims were provided with hot meal and drinking water.

The flood-hit people were forced to leave their houses and take shelter in higher places. The floodwaters also submerged croplands in the flood-affected districts.

The Northeast Frontier Railway cancelled at least three trains owing to heavy rain and the resultant rise in water level in different parts of Assam.

It may be mentioned here that nearly ninety people had lost their lives in the last wave of floods and over 57 lakh people were affected across 32 districts of Assam.
