18 Fall Ill After Consuming Wild Mushrooms In Udalguri

As many as 18 persons including pregnant women in Udalguri district of Assam fell ill after consuming poisonous mushrooms.

The incident took place at Bamunjuli tea garden on May 3rd, 2020. The sick persons are undergoing treatment at the Tangla Civil Hospital.

As per reports, the locals collected the mushrooms from a nearby forest. “The families cooked and consumed the mushrooms last night. In the morning today, they complained of stomach ache, nausea and vomiting,” said a local.

It may be mentioned, three members of a family died and one fell ill after consuming poisonous mushrooms at Sapekhati in Charaideo on May 2nd, 2020.

Deaths because of consumption of hallucinogenic mushrooms in several districts of Assam are often reported in the state during this time of the year.

Though many wild mushrooms are safe to consume, others pose a serious health risk and can even cause death if consumed.
